LuciBeda (Bedaquiline) is an antimycobacterial medicine containing bedaquiline, a diarylquinoline compound used as part of combination therapy for certain forms of drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB).
Indications: Bedaquiline is used in combination with other appropriate anti-tuberculosis medicines for the treatment of pulmonary tuberculosis caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis with resistance to standard therapies, according to the applicable product labeling and treatment guidelines.
Mechanism of action: Bedaquiline inhibits mycobacterial ATP synthase, an enzyme essential for energy production in Mycobacterium tuberculosis, thereby interfering with bacterial energy metabolism.
Dosage form: Oral tablets.
Administration: Taken orally according to the prescribed treatment regimen and in combination with other anti-tuberculosis medicines.
Possible adverse effects: May include nausea, headache, joint pain, dizziness, and abnormalities in liver function tests. Bedaquiline can also prolong the QT interval, so appropriate clinical monitoring may be required.
Important: Bedaquiline should be used only as part of an appropriate multidrug tuberculosis treatment regimen under the supervision of a qualified healthcare professional.
