Indications: Cenobamate is indicated for the treatment of focal-onset (partial-onset) seizures in adults. It may be used as monotherapy or as adjunctive therapy according to the prescribed treatment regimen.
Mechanism of action: Cenobamate reduces abnormal electrical activity in the brain through multiple mechanisms, including enhancement of inhibitory GABA-A receptor activity and inhibition of persistent sodium currents.
Dosage form: Tablets for oral administration.
Administration: Taken orally once daily. Cenobamate treatment is generally started at a low dose, such as 12.5 mg once daily, and gradually increased under medical supervision to reduce the risk of adverse reactions.
Possible adverse effects: Common adverse effects include sleepiness, dizziness, fatigue, headache, and problems with balance or coordination. Serious risks include DRESS, hypersensitivity reactions, and QT interval shortening.
Important: Cenobamate is a prescription antiepileptic medicine. It should be used under the supervision of a healthcare professional and should not be discontinued suddenly without medical advice.
